The Missing Artist

Start

  • The Problems on the docks quest must be completed without killing the Artist (any ending except Pyro is fine), at least one day ago.
  • There are two ways to start the quest:

Walkthrough

  1. After talking to Maxwell or the ghoul king, go to the the Docks and enter the The Charnel House (reopened).

General tips:

  • Getting to a lake covered by mists will take a while. I think it has to do with ghouls or finding walls or something. Explain if you know the details. You can skip all that jazz with Fae in the Fog if you have Fae Sight though.
  • There's some "ghoul counter" that I don't understand in detail. If you run away from ghouls or they kill you I guess more of them are roaming about. You can lure the guard back or kill ghouls to reduce the counter I think.
  • Surviving diving into the lake of fire or getting to the center of the island can be difficult.
  • Finishing this quest can also complete david's exploration, but only if you have kingly favor AND the artist survives.

ENDING 1:

  1. Get to the center of a lake covered by mists
  2. Lash out at the statue with a stone heart or stone horn equipped?
  3. Topple the statue with a black silver chain equipped to get Twisting Chains

FOR ENDINGS 2-5

  1. You'll need to find the location of the artists ("patient S43"). There are two ways to do this:

ENDING 2:

  1. Get to the midgard laboratory
  2. Hack it via normal hacking or voiceprint, then look for S43 by Viewing the Medical Logs
  3. Shoot Subject S43 to get Pyro

FOR ENDINGS 3-5

  1. Dive into a lake covered by mists to get an unscathed sketchbook
  2. Get to the midgard laboratory
  3. hack it via normal hacking or a sufficiently useful voiceprint, then look for S43 (View≥1 on Medical Logs). You may want to remove the barrier around him in the same encounter if possible (see below).
  4. Get accesss to subject S43:
    • go etheric and defeat the barrier (quite difficult)
    • OR hack to remove the barrier (first "wait a while" at subject s43 to see Dr. Mira, then use Command≥1 on Internal Locks)

ENDING 3:

  1. Turn your unscathed sketchbook into a living sketchbook by sketching the statue after meditating on the island with the book equipped
  2. Find the patient again with the living sketchbook equipped. Return the book (in any manner you like) to get a black sketchbook.
  3. Use the black sketchbook while in Southside to begin The Black Sketchbook quest (a choice of at least 3 other skills).

FOR ENDINGS 4-5:

  1. Otherwise, find the patient again and carry the patient away. Boosting First Aid improves your chances of getting him back alive. You gain <First Aid+10> energy of dying artist.

ENDING 4:

  1. Head back to the charnel house and find the island in the middle of the lake to acquire the Body and Spirit skill. If you previously knocked down the walls to let the lava out, you (and the artist) take less damage. You need enough HP to survive crossing the lake with the artist weighing you down or you will get Driven Healer instead.

ENDING 5:

  1. Run out of the energy of dying artist, the Artist dies and you acquire the Driven Healer skill. Does not matter where you are, just run out of the effect. Note: you must not have living sketchbook for this ending to work.

A student at Metroplex U has asked you to look after his artist friend who you've met before. From what he said, foul play may be involved.

This is somehow related to a patient labeled "S43" at the Midgard lab in the Slags.

Last time he disappeared, you found him in the southernmost warehouse on the Docks. It's probably not a bad place to start.

After successfully meditating at the rocky island

A student at Metroplex U has asked you to look after his artist friend who you've met before. From what he said, foul play may be involved.

This is somehow related to a patient labeled "S43" at the Midgard lab in the Slags.

You have a feeling this is all connected to a strange statue. It's held in the southernmost warehouse on the Docks, although nobody would expect the lake of fire surrounding it.

After getting a living sketchbook

The ghoul king and a student at the University have both asked you to look for the missing artist. From what the student said, foul play may be involved.

This is somehow related to a patient labeled "S43" at the Midgard lab in the Slags.

This is somehow all related to a strange sketchbook that somehow… destroyed or possibly absorbed the reawakened charnel house.

Second paragraph, after encountering the field but before meeting Dr. Mira, or if she has been killed

His body is held at Midgard's lab in the Slags under the label "S43." It's behind some sort of strange field that burns you when you try to pass.

After meeting Dr. Mira at the Midgard Laboratory

A student at Metroplex U has asked you to look after his artist friend who you've met before. From what he said, foul play may be involved.

His body is held at Midgard's lab in the Slags under the label "S43." He's being cared for or held by a Dr. Mira, who may know more.

You have a feeling this is all connected to a strange statue. It's held in the southernmost warehouse on the Docks, although nobody would expect the lake of fire surrounding it.

After lowering the force field in the Midgard Laboratory

A student at Metroplex U has asked you to look after his artist friend who you've met before. From what he said, foul play may be involved.

You've opened his room in Midgard's lab in the Slags. You should be able to get at him now.

You have a feeling this is all connected to a strange statue. It's held in the southernmost warehouse on the Docks, although nobody would expect the lake of fire surrounding it.

Alternate first line for the above entries if you've spoken to both the student and the ghoul king about the artist

The ghoul king and a student at the University have both asked you to look for the missing artist. From what the student said, foul play may be involved.

Second paragraph, after carrying the artist away from the Priority Care Room

He was in Midgard's lab in the Slags, but now he's on your back. You need to get him somewhere fast, because he's not in good shape without the life support equipment.

After destroying the stupid statue (Finished log)

You destroyed the statue in the warehouse which seemed to set things back to normal. Who knows where the artist went to, though?

After Sympathetic Shock

You resolved the problem of Metroplex U's missing artist, but he didn't survive the process.

After getting the Body and Spirit skill

You brought Metroplex U's missing artist back into contact with his fragmented self before he vanished.
