Morality

Effects

Some game actions are tagged as good or evil, and some actions trigger on this. Many come from choosing specific choices in choice encounters; for example, choosing to attack a human is generally considered evil.

On Podcast #52, Kinak explains the mechanics in detail - good or evil actions have a magnitude associated with them, which can theoretically be unlimited but in practice tends to range from -20 (very evil) to +20 (very good). For simplicity, we use a scale of 1, 2, 3, 4 on the wiki (corresponding to 5, 10, 15, 20 points). The most obvious item that triggers on morality choices is the unearthly coin.

There are also some minor-level acts that also trigger (at some level less than 5 points), so the unearthly coin doesn't even trigger but some other sources do, see below. (eg. buying explosives from the Eurasian Arms Dealer)

Triggers

Source Response Notes
Unearthly Coin item Gives Warm/Hot/Blistering/Searing Coin effects for 1-4 good acts and Cool/Cold/Freezing/Numbing Coin effects for 1-4 evil acts, respectively No other Coin effect can be active; and maximum morality is capped by your Will
Black Rose Bud/Bloom/Rose items Believed to grow with evil actions, irrespective of magnitude Needs investigation
Shining Glasses item Attacking an opponent from a ≥2 evil choice encounter Grants Psychotic Break, sometimes
Psychotic Break technique Gives distinguishing results from attacking an opponent from 1 evil and ≥2 evil choices
Wings Of Glass technique Enhanced when attacking an opponent from a good combat Requires Etheric
Born of Sorrow skill Heals 2-5 HP on any evil action, irrespective of magnitude Seems to trigger on some things that don't even trigger Cool Coin, (eg. buying explosives from the Eurasian Arms Dealer) - needs investigation if there is another minor-level evil magnitude
Dark Bloom effect Adds additional turns with evil actions, irrespective of magnitude Needs investigation
Spark Of Forgiveness skill Gives/ups 20 turns of Spark Of Forgiveness on good choices, removes all energy of it on evil choices
False Forgiveness skill Gives 1 turn of Cycle of Forgiveness on evil choices resulting in combat
