Sources
There are many ways to get this effect. Each point of bonus Eclipse duration will add an additional 1/5 of the total energy to the effect (e.g. +1 energy for an Eclipse tablet, +5 energy for a vial of hound Eclipse).
Many sources also confer additional effects. Except where noted below, you gain as much energy of each additional effect as you do of Etheric, taking any bonus for Eclipse duration into account.

Effects
Etheric turns certain normal encounters into strange special encounters, or allows you to discover entirely new ones. The Ocean Sight and Fae Sight effects are equivalent to the Etheric effect for most purposes. Broken World and Slags Poisoning are usually equivalent (see Notes below). The pages for locations and individual encounters should list important exceptions to this general rule.
Techniques
Certain Etheric Techniques use this effect for power. These actually consume one energy of the effect and fail if there isn't any available.
Notes
The Ocean Eyes replaces all energy of Etheric with the Ocean Sight effect.
The Fae Eyes replaces all energy of Etheric with the Fae Sight effect.
Certain equipment and effects can give bonus Eclipse Duration, increasing the amount of energy you get of this effect.
Slags Poisoning unlocks the special etheric encounters, but cannot be used as fuel etheric techniques or other similar purposes. (Is this the same with Broken World?) Blood of the Ancients can be used as additional fuel to further increase the power of etheric techniques.
The Urban Lore skill will allow you to trade energy of etheric to summon certain items.
