There are several paths through this quest. Any one of these must be completed to complete the quest.

First path: Helping the Mushroom People

Quest Log (Mushroom Path)

Starting quest

David has asked you to make contact with the strange, intelligent beings that haunt the visions of Eclipse users. He suggested starting at the Docks, although his experience there wasn't entirely pleasant.

After talking with Ancient Shroom about helping out, second section appears

The leader of the mushroom people, or whatever they are, has requested you destroy representations of the Eldest being distributed through the Docks above.

After destroying sufficient (~100) Fae Plushes and checking your progress with the Ancient Shroom, end section updates to show this

You've helped restore the balance of power for the mushroom people beneath the sewers. They might be able to answer David's questions.

You've found David's strange involvement in the story of Eclipse and the intelligent denizens of the ether.

Second path: Helping the Fae

  • Find your way into the Mushroom Cavern (see Finding the Mushroom Cavern below)
  • Watch the fae acrobatics carefully.
  • Head for the cave in the Cavern Grove (you need >20 buffed reflexes and have Fae Blessing active for this).
  • Talk to the King of the Fae and ask David's question.
  • She sets you two goals, which can be done in either order:
    • One, deal with the mushroom people:
      • Help the Mushroom Servant and then strike up conversation to unlock the ancient shroom.
      • Ask him to surrender, and kill him.
      • (Alternatively, can you destroy the fae plushes? - to be spaded)
    • Two, deal with the fish people:
  • Return to the Mushroom Cavern and talk to the King of the Fae again.
  • Talk to David again to complete the quest.

David has asked you to make contact with the strange, intelligent beings that haunt the visions of Eclipse users. He suggested starting at the Docks, although his experience there wasn't entirely pleasant.

The leader of the mushroom people, or whatever they are, has requested you destroy representations of the Eldest being distributed through the Docks above.

The Eldest leader has requested you quell their rebellious servants and destroy their enemies' urns in the sea. Apparently there is a special draught you can create chemically that will allow you to pass into that watery realm.

After killing off Ancient Shroom the third section changes

You've completed half the Eldest leader's request, but must still must destroy their enemies' urns in the sea. Apparently there is a special draught you can create chemically that will allow you to pass into that watery realm.

Last section after smashing the urns

You've completed half the Eldest leader's request, but must still quell their rebellious servants.

Last section after killing the Ancient Shroom and smashing the urns

You've completed the tasks set before you by the Eldest leader.

Third path: Helping the Fish People

If you have received the urn, the second paragraph becomes:

You've agreed to prove yourself as a warrior by capturing one of the 'Eldest' in an urn.

Fourth path: Helping the Ghoul King

  • While looking for Dr. Amundsen in the Underground Asylum (during the University Quest) grab a Tome of Binding.
  • Complete the Problems on the docks quest by binding the Ghoul King to gain the Kingly Favor skill.
  • The next day, use Kingly Favor to ask the Ghoul King twice about the artist, with your tome equipped. He will send you on The Missing Artist quest.
  • Ask David's question to the Ghoul King.
  • WARNING: You must do the above two steps, even if you started the Missing Artist quest from someone else. If you do not talk to the Ghoul King about the missing artist before rescuing him, you will not be able to complete this path.
  • Complete the Missing Artist quest in a way that saves the artist (return his sketchbook without killing him, or carry him to the Charnet house's island before he dies).
  • Ask David's question to the King again.
  • Talk to David to complete the quest.

Fifth Path: Warrior Of The Seas

Finding the Mushroom Cavern (for paths 1, 2 and 3)

Note that you must be etheric at all times when in the cavern, or you will be kicked back to the sewers.

If you have Fae Sight:

Or, if you have Ocean Eyes:

  1. Note that you must be etheric for nearly all encounters in the lake.
  2. Find a way into the Lake Metroplex (south):
  3. Find the Distant Palace and offer one of the following gifts:
  4. Find the Distant Palace again and go to the palace to ask David's question to receive a sloshing urn.
  5. Head to the north side of the lake.
  6. Find enough items to gain at least 3 Diving Ability from the Great Stand Of Seaweed.
  7. Find the fish person, ask about the urn and follow him to the Mushroom Cavern.

In order to still be able to access the cavern with Ocean Eyes, but no sloshing urn in your inventory (the fish person only leads you to the cavern if you do have it), do the following while in the cavern:
